Wandera Bernard
Wandera Bernard is the Programs Manager at BIT Global Climate Change and Health Collaboration, where he leads and oversees the planning, development, and implementation of initiatives under the organization’s Climate Change and Health, Global Health Security, and Antimicrobial Resistance programs.
Bernard holds a Master degree of Public Health from Clarke International University, Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Health and Social Systems Management from the University of Manchester, a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Leadership and Management from Mulago Paramedical Schools, and a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology from Jinja Medical Laboratory Training School.
Bernard has also undertaken short courses in Africa Climate and Health Responders Course, European Climate Resilient Health Systems, Field Epidemiology Training Program, Frontline Field Epidemiology Training Program, Scientific Communication/Writing, Response Preparedness for Zoonotic Disease outbreaks Using a One Health Approach, Seasonal Influenza Prevention and Control, Preventing Epidemics and Pandemics through one health in Practice-Voices from One Health Professionals, Ready to respond to an outbreak of Ebola or Marburg Disease-What’s new in WHO Infection Prevention and Control Guidelines, Ready for Response-Tier 1 and Ready for Response-Tier2. He has worked with the following organizations: Plan Uganda, Infectious Disease Research Collaboration (Uganda), Baylor Uganda and Bunyangabu District (Ministry of Health, Uganda), in the roles of Medical Laboratory Technologist, Research Assistant and Public Health Surveillance Officer (Epidemiologist). He is a member of the Uganda National Rapid Response Team and a National trainer for Rapid response teams. He has participated in the development of the Uganda National Operational manual for Rapid Response Teams and ever been Deployed as a Rapid Response Team member for surveillance and IPC in the previous Ebola outbreaks in Uganda, Mubende- 2022 and Kampala Metropolitan Area-2025. He has also participated in the case investigation of Sudan Ebola Virus Disease Outbreaks in Uganda in 2022 and 2025, Yellow fever outbreak in Kasese District-2022, Bundibugyo district-2022 and case investigation of Meningitis outbreak in Bunyangabu District-2018.
Bernard brings a wealth of experience in fostering collaborative partnerships across critical global health challenges. His work spans Climate Change and Health, Global Health Security, and Antimicrobial Resistance. With a proven track record of building multi-sectoral alliances, Bernard is committed to advancing sustainable solutions at the intersection of health, environment, and policy.
